With the temperature maintained at just above freezing and at an ideal humidity level, fruit, vegetables, meat and fish retain their vitamins and minerals, delicate flavor and attractive appearance for up to three times longer than in a normal refrigerator.

BioFresh in Detail

The BioFresh safes, available in select Liebherr refrigerators are separate refrigeration compartments. Within the compartment, the low humidity DrySafe is ideal for storing meat, fish and dairy products. The HydroSafe, with high levels of humidity, is designed to keep fruit and vegetables at optimum freshness.  Essentially, the technology promotes health and wellness by maintaining vital minerals and vitamins and keeps food fresh up to three times longer than with traditional refrigeration.

Liebherr’s BioFresh technology provides perfect freshness for all types of food. The low humidity DrySafe is ideal for storing meat, fish and dairy products, which should always be wrapped airtight. Fruit and vegetables are best kept in the HydroSafe with a high level of humidity. Fruit and vegetables should be placed unwrapped in the drawer to allow the humidity to circulate. Precision electronics ensure that the temperature is accurately maintained just above +32° F (+0° C) to prevent your food from freezing.

Fruit & Veggie Storage

Easy to digest and extremely low in calories, fresh fruit is an ideal source of vitamins and minerals. But once fruit has been picked, it continues to mature, and the health benefits break down from day to day. The best way to effectively slow down this natural aging process and reduce loss of flavor through drying, is to store fruit at a temperature just over freezing and at a high humidity level in the BioFresh HydroSafe. In addition to supplying vitamins, minerals and healthy carbohydrates, vegetables offer a wide variety of secondary plant substances. This bio-power helps build resistance and has a beneficial effect on the circulatory system. As with other foods, the quality and health value of vegetables depend on their storage, with a solution that provides low temperatures and high humidity the best guarantee for freshness.

Meat Storage

Natural protein, found in abundance in meat, is fuel for your body. Storing meat products for optimal freshness demands an exacting environment. The BioFresh DrySafe offers the ideal location: low humidity and low temperature effectively reduce the activity of microorganisms that make food perish, providing extra-long storage life

When stored in a normal refrigerator at approximately +41° F (+5° C) with high humidity levels, the quality of your meat declines faster than meat stored in the super fresh environment of the BioFresh safe.

Fish Storage

Fresh fish contains everything to keep your body fit: proteins, iodine and iron. Some fish varieties are also particularly low in fat, but contain all of the essential amino acids – the building blocks of life. The cellular structure in fish and other seafood is particularly susceptible to microbiological processes of decomposition, making storage at a low temperature and humidity level even more important.

BioFresh Studies

Two studies conducted by renowned research institutes in Europe recently confirmed this. Both studies found that food quality profits markedly from BioFresh technology. How great are the benefits of the BioFresh safe for food freshness compared with storage in a conventional vegetable crisper? This was the question studied by Lake Constance Centre for Fruit Growing and the German Federal Research Institute for Nutrition. The results spoke clearly in favour of BioFresh from Liebherr. The vitamin C values alone were 92% higher on average. Some foods even showed an increase in the vitamin C content. Food weight was maintained by an average of 68.3% better during storage with BioFresh. Waste was significantly reduced.
